Ranger’s Retreat – Hāwea, New Zealand
Peace and tranquility await you at Ranger’s Retreat, a stunning two bedroom luxury cottage set in a beautiful rural location close to Lake Hawea. Situated on a 100-acre farm, this cosy cottage enjoys spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, which can be enjoyed throughout the property. An open plan living area features a comfortable lounge space, with comfortable couches and plush sheepskin beanbags surrounding the fireplace. A window seat offers a place to relax with a book, taking a moment every now and again to glance out and admire the view. Slide open the floor to ceiling glass doors and open up the kitchen/dining zone to the deck outside, offering great indoor-outdoor flow in the warmer months. Outside, there is a table for alfresco dining, plus sofas surrounding an outdoor fireplace – the perfect spot to relax with a glass of local Pinot Noir and watch the sky change colour as the sun sets behind the Southern Alps.
Ranger’s Retreat, formerly owned by a ranger of Hawea back in the 1900s, has two king bedrooms, one at the front of the property facing out to the mountain vistas, and one at the rear, which enjoys views of the mountains behind. Both share the main bathroom. There is also a mezzanine loft space with twin beds. There are walking tracks up the back of the property which gives guests even more spectacular views of the surrounding area. Situated just 10 minutes drive from Lake Hawea township, or 20 minutes to Lake Wanaka, guests can have the best of both worlds – a relaxing retreat in nature, while also being close enough to stock up at the local shop or enjoy dinner at one of Wanaka’s amazing local restaurants. Drive down to Hawea lakefront and enjoy a walk or bike ride along the Gladstone track, a well-formed track which connects Johns Creek to Hawea township. The beach is just below the track, so pack a picnic and your swimmers and take a dip in the lake to cool off. There are also plenty of hiking opportunities in the area – Grandview Mountain, Breast Hill and Isthmus Peak, to name just a few!

All rates are quoted in New Zealand dollars and include GST. Rates shown are indicative 'from' rates and may vary depending on your dates, length of stay, number of guests and seasonal demand.
Peak-season rates and longer minimum stays may apply, over major holiday or event periods.
A 50% non-refundable deposit is required for bookings made more than 60 days before arrival. The remaining balance is due 60 days before arrival. Bookings made within 60 days of arrival require full payment.
A booking management fee applies to all reservations.
A refundable security bond is required for every stay. The bond starts from $NZD 1,000 and may be higher depending on the property, nightly rate and length of stay.
Standard check-in is between 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm, with check-out by 11:00 am. Early arrivals and late departures are subject to availability and may incur additional charges.
Guest numbers must not exceed the confirmed occupancy. Parties, events and additional visitors require prior written approval. Smoking is not permitted, and pets are accepted only at selected properties with prior approval.
Villas, holiday homes and apartments are not commercial entities like hotels. Properties offered by Release NZ are often booked well in advance and can be difficult to re-rent at short notice. Payments are therefore non-refundable if a guest cancels. We strongly recommend that all guests take out comprehensive travel insurance to protect against cancellation charges, medical expenses, travel disruption and other unforeseen circumstances that may prevent them from travelling.
Only the services and amenities listed under Inclusions are included in the accommodation rate. Additional housekeeping, private chefs, provisioning, transfers, activities and other concierge services can be arranged separately.
